Hi there! I’m Lisa and I’m new to thru-hiking. While exploring options to explore Madeira I found the Madeira Ultra Trail and it looks so amazing. Since I’m a newbie I have a lot of questions.

I’m not sure what kind of shoes to wear, I read a lot about trail running shoes, I usually walk and hike on light hiking/mountain boots but they take ages…

I’m thinking of starting this trail in May, by myself with a tent.

This would be the first thru-hike for me. I have a lot of questions;)

The government of Madeira is currently creating a new trail from Machico to Ribeira da Janela (very similar with the MIUT), about 93 Km long , 64.6 km are existing trails, and 28.4 km new trails connecting to those existing trails.
